NEW SAN FRANCISCO HEADQUARTERS FOR LOCAL 790
SEIU Local 790, one of Northern California’s largest unions, has signed a 10-year lease, with an option to extend, at 350 Rhode Island Street to relocate its San Francisco headquarters. Josie Mooney, Executive Director of the 40,000 + member Public Employee Union, announced that the current schedule is to make the transition in October 2006. Local 790, presently located at Fox Plaza, will occupy 25,308 rsf of the ground floor of the South Building at 350 Rhode Island. Ms. Mooney sited several factors in the union’s decision; including the newly designed efficient structure and layout, ample on-site covered, secured parking and good public transportation. Paul Stein of SKS Investments, the owner/developer, has also agreed to provide a private shuttle service for the Local’s employees.
Michael Tobin of Pacific Union Commercial Brokerage, who exclusively represented Local 790, said that the while the initial goal was to purchase a San Francisco office property as the Local had done in Oakland and Stockton, the final decision to lease was very well received. “The quality and location of the project, the on-site parking and the willingness of the Landlord to work with the Local eliminated the competition.” Tobin said. As an example, Tobin noted that the landlord agreed to invest nearly $1,500,000 in Local 790’s tenant office buildout.
SEIU Local 790 represents its members in San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Joaquin and Sacramento counties. This representation spans the public sector economy from BART to the public schools to public health to local government and private non-profits.
